Hi all.



I had an echo test done and an ECG the other week. I suffer with anxiety which 'may' make things worse. Constantly im thinking about my heart, any pains i get i blame it on my heart. I cant help it.



What im asking is even though my echo and ecg came back as 'Normal' ie. no problems were found, is it possible that i could still have a serious condition?



I still get skipped beats, sometimes they feel like huge shocks that last a second, other times its like a flip flop feeling and sometimes my heartrate slows down to 40bpm when i stand up.



I get so freaked out, i dont know whats going on.

The mechanics and electrical behavior of your heart are then ok. The doctor also listened to it, which can reveal other problems, and it was ok.



Arterial blockages can still build up from stress and lack of healthy foods. Less stress, more healthy foods.



Find some people who really need help, they will take your mind of your imagined problems. It will help both of you.
The ECG determines the electrical activity of your heart; the echo determines the anatomy/structure/overall function of your heart. Both of which came back normal, so you know that those areas are fine.



What those tests cannot determine is the level of plaque buildup in your arteries, if any. A stress echo is a non-invasive screening for possible arterial blockage, but is an indirect test. Under stress, the heart muscles require more oxygenated blood and if there are any major blockages, the corresponding heart muscle will not contract as well. However, angiograms are the gold standard because they look at the arteries themselves.



You can still have a completely normal heart and feel palpitations and mild arrythmias. If the symptoms persist or get worse, see a cardiologist. However, I would take the good news of the ECG and echo and feel relieved. A good lifestyle, exercise and a healthy diet will go a long way to keeping your ticker working well.
