I need a little bit more information..

Does it only freeze when you try and connect to the internet? Do other programs freeze?

Are you in able to open task manager at all?

What OS and version of IE are you using?

Task manager is only for shutting down programs and still you shouldnt mess around with it. Sounds to me like you might have a virus (if it keeps freezing) get back to me with the following information and i can help you out better :)

If it's freezing on a regular basis, you have a more deep-seated problem than you can fix with Task Manager. However, you should be able to open Task Manager by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del or by right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting it from the menu. If neither of those options works, you may need to repair or reinstall Windows (but be careful!). You may also need to reinstall your dialup software or check your configuration if you're not connecting.
What you need to do is download Opera Web Browser off of www.opera.com

It is way better for the web, faster, easier to use, and doesn't give so many problems like IE.
If you can't get to the task manager you most likely have a virus. I have cleaned off a bunch of computers and when it won't let you into Task Manager 99.99% of the time you have a virus. Do you have any antivirus software installed? If no get a copy of some kind of antivirus, if you can still download you can get AVG free. Or you can go to the store and get Norton/Symantec. Once you have antivirus try to install it. Some viruses even will prevent this. If so restart your computer and before windows starts to load keep hitting the F8. You should get an option of how you want to start windows. Choose regular safe mode. Once in safe mode try to install antivirus program if you haven't done so. Now run your antivirus is safe mode. The reason you want to do it in safe mode is because when you boot up your computer normally the virus is loading itself in memory and not allow you to uninstall/delete it. Safe mode only boots up the programs neccesary for windows to work. Hopefully this will work for you.
