Downloading IE 7.0 caused problems, so I've done a system restore. How does restore work? Virus

Since downloading IE 7.0, I've had several problems. After doing a system restore, everything returned to normal. Does restore really get rid of everything that was previously downloaded, or does it just save it somewhere? Also, what if I had a virus? Would System restore correct that permanently?

No, you need to have an anti-virus for getting rid of viruses.

system restore basically restores the system state ... it doesnt affect other files ... it may or may not get rid of a virus depending on what is infected and if its active and if watever executed is still running somewhere ..
Basically, it gets rid of it. I am sure, tho, that there are programs that can restore deleted files (which you don't want back). As far as the virus, it got rid of the one you have but you can still get viruses so:

Try these. They work and they are free:

Run the tool and then download the free spyware and virus protection programs:

Ad-Aware Free download:

Good Luck
System restore just takes you back to an earlier time of saved settings. It will not get rid of a virus though. I tried that already.
Go here...{:-{}.
Depends on which restore point you use. If you install on thursday and restore to a later restore point, it is still there lurking. That is why it is important to use the restore point created by the install. System restore is not likel to fix a virus, because they are not that dumb. A virus will normally attach to system 32, and a system restore will probably spread it further.
The configration beforesystem restore is in your PC only...! If you want you can revert back. But better you retain the restored configuration and insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
